How One UK Accountant Regained Control of His Life
Client Background:
When Rob, a 35-year-old UK-based accountant, first reached out to me, he was struggling with overwhelming anxiety, which started during the first COVID lockdown. Living alone, Rob spent most of the day with only his thoughts for company, which led to worry about his future. As his stress increased, he started overanalyzing and overthinking everything, from job security to the broader uncertainties of the pandemic. This overthinking eventually escalated, triggering panic attacks and a constant feeling of being on edge.
When Rob came out of the first lockdown and entered his workplace and society again, he faced the world for the first time with his panic and anxiety. He struggled to manage, and before long, he was getting anxious about being anxious at work or socializing; this led him to withdraw and spend more time by himself.
By the time the second lockdown began, Rob found himself caught in a cycle of 24/7 anxiety, which took over his life and affected his well–being at every level.
Goals:
Rob came to my program hoping to find lasting relief from his relentless anxiety, gain control over his stress, and overcome the physical symptoms. His primary goals were to learn practical tools for managing his anxiety, reduce his overthinking, and ultimately reconnect with the calm, confident person he knew himself to be before the pandemic.
Challenges:
Rob faced significant challenges before beginning my program. With medical tests providing no answers, he found himself combing through anxiety forums online, searching for any potential solution. Although he tried various approaches—including medication, which left him feeling dizzy and unfocused, as well as yoga and exercise—none provided lasting relief. Until working with me, he had not explored the deeper aspects of breath retraining or nervous system work, which proved essential in his progress.

Transformation Timeline:
The initial phase focused on retraining Rob’s breathing through awareness and proper mechanics, along with introducing deep rest techniques to support his nervous system. Daily gratitude practices were added to help shift his focus away from stress. These foundational tools reduced his reactivity and made him feel more grounded as he distanced himself from overwhelming thoughts.
Building on the foundation, we developed Rob’s mind-body connection, helping him learn to interpret his physical symptoms without fear. Rob gained confidence in handling real-world stressors by introducing nervous system safety and gentle stress resilience techniques, allowing him to feel more at ease in everyday situations.
The last phase involved refining Rob’s breathing techniques specifically for exercise, enhancing his resilience, and reinforcing the mind-body connection. By the end of the program, Rob was equipped to remain calm under pressure and manage his stress independently.
